Terrain-following NX Horizon-XTR: Advancing Solar Energy in Al Kahfah, Saudi Arabia
Making solar time and cost-efficient on hilly and undulating terrain, while reducing environmental impacts
The Al Kahfah Solar PV Park, situated in Saudi Arabia’s central province, is a flagship initiative under the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 roadmap. This project, a key component of the country’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), represents a transformative step toward achieving Saudi Arabia’s goal of 50% energy production from renewable by 2030.
Developed by ACWA Power and Badeel, with Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) serving as the EPC contractor, the project showcases the power of cutting-edge technology and policy-driven innovation. The NX Horizon-XTR terrain-following solar tracker was selected to address the site’s unique challenges — including rocky, undulating terrain — while optimizing energy production and reducing costs.
Nextracker’s advanced solar tracking technology helped overcome the need for extensive grading and heavy machinery, significantly accelerating timelines and minimizing environmental impact.
